HDMI(High Definition Multimedia Interface)是數字高清多媒體接口，其協議由Sony, Hitachi, Thomson (RCA), Philips, Matsushita (Panasonic), Toshiba 和 Silicon Image合作開發完成，基於Silicon image 的TMDS技術傳輸數據，能向下兼容DVI(Digital Visual Interface)。
隨著電視的分辨率逐步提升，高清電視越來越普及，HDMI接口主要就是用於傳輸高質量、無損耗的數字音視頻信號到高清電視, 最高帶寬達到5Gbps。
美國FCC 規定2005 年7 月1 日起，所有數字電視週邊產品都必須內建HDMI或DVI。 |

DVI---全稱為（Digita Visual Interface），它的出現原來有段故事，數起來要回到1997年，當時為了迎接數碼平面顯示器時代的來臨，美國Video Electronics Standards Association，早已洞悉[D---D---D]影像傳送的重要性，遂提出要有新影像傳送P&D標準，即是Plug and Display standard，能夠以單一端子便可以傳送數碼或模擬訊號，就好像電腦其它端子例如USB或Firewire等。
然而要整個業界甚至全世界統一新影像傳送格式，不單有很多人為及政法因素，在技術上及成本上亦困難重重。然而最終都達成協議，推出DVI格式，而這種格式的好處，正是輸送數碼影像之餘，乃然可以兼容傳統模擬式的VGA，SVGA，XVGA訊號。 |
